Indonesian Course
Intermediate Level
Course Materials, Notes & Exercises for:
LAB 3201,
A continuation of LAB2201, this module will build on the skills developed in LAB2201 and introduce some reading materials from selected Indonesian short stories, magazines, etc. The reading materials are selected from Indonesian magazines to meet the ability of the students to digest and analyze according to the students acquisition. The main goal of the course is to enable the students to express their opinion, feeling, and analyses of a certain situation given in the reading material in the target language. Skimming skill to get the core message from the reading material is honed – dispense with unnecessary details encountered in vocabulary and grammatical problems. To achieve this goal the students are encouraged to participate in the activities meant to facilitate the learning process. Some activities such as drawing, acting, and dramatizing are recommended since they have significant learning philosophy besides the students themselves will have fun in their process of learning.

The 4 hours speaking, reading and writing class will be conducted twice a week in a small group setting. This setting is to ensure that enough attention will be given to each individual student. Language is acquired through practice, individually and corporately; therefore, each student is entitled to have sufficient feedback and attention from the teacher. Once a student sign up for his/her respective group, he/she cannot move to a different group without a valid reason to obtain the teachers' consent (in this case, getting up late is not a valid reason). Also, being punctual and consistent is crucial in language classes. If one student comes more than 10 minutes after the class starts, he/she will not be permitted to join the class, so as not to interrupt the ongoing classroom interaction. Neither can he/she join the other tutorial group, thus he/she will be considered absent. This is to maintain the small group dynamic mentioned earlier.
