The Chinese Language is one of 13 languages offered by the Centre for Language Studies, NUS. We have a pool of experienced and dedicated full-time and part-time teachers teaching at the Centre. The Chinese Programme attracts around 400 students each semester. After undergoing systematic training in Chinese, students without prior knowledge can converse in Chinese fluently after one semester and students who have some basic knowledge will find their ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing greatly enhanced. They will be able to read and write fluently in Chinese, gain a better understanding of Chinese history and culture, and apply Chinese in a culturally appropriate manner.

The Chinese Language Programme consists of 8 modules at four different levels:

· Elementary (Learning Chinese as a foreign language):

(1) LAC1201 Chinese 1;

(2) LAC2201 Chinese 2;

· Intermediate (Learning Chinese as a foreign language):

(3) LAC3201 Chinese 3;

(4) LAC3202 Chinese 4

· Advanced (Learning Chinese as a foreign language):

(5) LAC4201 Chinese 5;

(6) LAC4202 Chinese 6

· Post-Advanced (Learning Chinese as a mother tongue / AO Level and above):

(7) LAC2202 Chinese Characters Writing & Composition

(8) LAC3204 Chinese for Business & Social Sciences
